Travel is part of most people’s lives. So are the carbon emissions that come with it.
Luckily, there are tools people can use to reduce their impact on the environment. Carbon offsets are an effective tool to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions, and companies like Aeroplan have gotten on board.
A carbon-offset is an investment in a project that prevents or helps reduces the impact of greenhouse-gas emissions. One carbon offset is equal to the reduction or prevention of one metric tonne of greenhouse-gas emissions. That’s about equivalent to the emissions created on a one-way flight from Montreal to Berlin, or an average year of driving a compact car.
Aeroplan’s new Green It Up partner, Offsetters, lets Aeroplan Members contribute their miles toward offset credits. The Vancouver-based company supports clean-energy projects around the world, including renewable energy systems for buildings in B.C. and wind farms in Turkey and New Zealand.
